questions we get asked…frequently

What is ziplining?

Ziplining is a fun and safe way to get you from “here” to “there”. The Koloa Zipline Guides clip you into a galvanized steel wire rope with a pulley. Your harness will hold you safely as you soar across the valley, through the jungle and over the reservoir. You are stopped safely on the other side by one of three braking systems.

How safe is ziplining?

Our Kauai Zipline course and equipment is inspected daily, and our guides receive continual training to maintain the highest standard of safety at all times. Once each year, our course undergoes a rigorous inspection and evaluation by an accredited member of the Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT). Ziplining is considered a safe activity for all participants who meet the criteria. Our trained Koloa Zipline guides will teach you how to participate in a fun and safe manner.

How far in advance should I make my reservation?

To ensure that you get your 1st choice, we recommend at least 2 weeks in advance. We usually have openings even one day in advance, but availability may be limited. Call us to find out! Four weeks ahead is best if there are five or more in your group or during busy seasons. The busy times for Koloa Zipline are summer (June through August), Thanksgiving week (third week in November) and Christmas/New Year’s (December 15 through January 15).

Where is Koloa Zipline located?

Koloa Zipline is located on the island of Kauai, on the south shore in Koloa, just North of Poipu. Our check-in office/retail store is located in Old Koloa Town behind the main strip. Get Directions

Will I get wet on tour?

Most likely—it rains almost every day on Kauai, at least for a short while! We recommend wearing clothing and shoes that can get muddy. Kauai is famous for its rich, red soil. And remember, a passing shower is considered a blessing in Hawaii!

Do your tours go out when it is raining?

Yes, our tours go out rain or shine. In the event that we determine weather is hazardous, we may cancel a tour and guests may be rescheduled.

At this time, we have not developed a hiking tour to go along the zipline course, but it is in our future plans…stay tuned for your next visit.

Are there any restrooms on your tour?

We have restrooms at our our base yard.

What if I am scared?

Many people are nervous about heights, the speed, lack of control or being nervous they will come in backwards (despite what they say!). We understand that some people may be apprehensive about tackling an experience such as this. However, before the tour, you will learn how to Zip at our “ground school” which will prepare you for the course. Our professionally trained Koloa Zipline guides will be with you at all times to make sure that everyone has a positive experience. Our course and all of our equipment is checked daily and meets or exceeds all industry standards. Health Recommendations and Physical Requirements Weight restrictions: No more than 280 pounds. If you don’t have a major credit card, you can contact us directly. Please call 808-742-2734 for more details.

Are water shoes OK for ziplining?

We would prefer sturdier closed toe shoes with good support. Watershoes should be a last resort, folks. Please wear shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy, wet or dirty. It’s all part of the fun. Crocs or slip-on backless shoes, sandles, or flip-flops will not be allowed. No refunds on tours where proper footwear is ignored.

When I’m ziplining, will I have to brake myself or control my speed?

Our guides will do this for you, ensuring your safety and giving you extra time to kick back, relax and SCREAM!

Will my child have to ride tandem?

The need for tandem varies depending on rider weight and wind/weather conditions. Our guides use their discretion to decide which lines require tandem for specific guests on their particular tour.

With that said, typically riders weighing 80 to 90 pounds or less will need to ride tandem on at least some of our lines but not necessarily all.

However, even the lightest of riders can usually ride a couple of lines individually if weather conditions permit.

Are there age restrictions?

Our minimum age requirement is 7 years old, however, if a young guest is not capable of continuing the course, both a parent or legal guardian will be escorted back to our base yard (no refunds will be issued for such cases).
